Supersite – Teno river
Braided river with large, mobile sand bars and erodible banks running to Arctic ocean
Teno: Braided river with large, mobile sand bars and erodible banks, runs to Arctic ocean
Pulmanki: tributary of Teno, meandering, sand–bed
- Low human impact, low turbidity, significant spawning area for atlantic salmon and trout
Research interests:
- Sub-arctic fluvial geomorphology, river connectivity & meander dynamics
- Hydro-climatological changes in sub-arctics
- State-of-the–art survey & modelling approaches
- River ice (& under ice) processes
- Fish habitats (atlantic salmon/pink salmon)
Research activities (2008–>)
- Water quality and quantity
- Flow characteristics (acoustic meas., modelling)
- River geometry, channel change, bank erosion (TLS, MLS, SfM, ADCP, online cameras, modelling)
- Sediment distribution and transport (in situ, model)
- Open channel & ice-covered conditions
- Detailed bathymetry & terrain over a reach of 250 km with 3 wavelenght LiDAR (2023)
- Continuous water quantity measurements form the main channel and tributaries (2022-2023)
- Sonar data/drone imagery from the tributary intersections & sediments
