Developing a rotating laser scanner for an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV)
When the rest of Finland is on holidays, the summer trainees take over the research institutes! Here is one of them: Matias Mäki-Leppilampi is student from Aalto University, who is working at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute (FGI) this summer. He is working in a team developing a rotating laser scanner system. Watch the video to learn about the summer project of Matias!
Eventually this system can be installed on the Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), or the “robo-boat” in other words, that can produce a sharp 3D image of the river and the catchment area. Turun yliopisto – University of Turku, who is leading the Freshwater Competence Centre, is adding a new research robot boat in their fleet this autumn. Stay tuned and follow our LinkedIn to hear more about this, because we are already getting excited to tell you all about it!
